Property types

House

A home on two floors with its own front door at ground level. It can be part of a terrace, semi-detached or detached. Most have two or three bedrooms; some have four. One living room downstairs. Some have a private garden, others have a yard or paved private area.

House (2 living rooms)

Same as 'House' (above) except there are two living rooms downstairs. One of the downstairs rooms may be used as an extra bedroom - making a two-bed house suitable for a household that needs three bedrooms; and a three-bed house suitable for a household that needs four.

Bungalow

A home on one floor with its own front door at ground level. They usually have one living room, and one or two bedrooms. Some have their own garden, others share a garden with neighbouring homes. Some bungalows are 'sheltered' or retirement housing for older people. Check the 'Details' of each advertised home.

Multi-storey flat

A flat with one floor in a tall block - usually between six and 15 storeys high. Usually one or two bedrooms. There is a communal entrance on the ground floor, communal staircases and landings, a lift, and individual front doors to each flat.

Flat in a low block

Most of these homes are either 'cottage flats', or 'walk-up flats'. Others are in 'sheltered' or retirement housing for older people. A cottage flat has one floor in a building of two storeys - it usually looks like a house from the outside. The ground floor flat usually has private use of any garden or yard.

A walk-up flat is in a small block - usually between two and four storeys - or an individual flat above a shop or maisonette. Some homes have a communal entrance, then their own front door - others have individual front doors only. Most have one or two bedrooms.

Maisonette

Usually a block of two homes, each with two floors. Some have a communal entrance, then their own front door - others have individual front doors only. Most have two or three bedrooms. Some maisonettes are above shops, or in a block with a one-storey flat. The ground floor maisonette usually has sole use of any garden or yard.
