Area guide: Openshaw
Openshaw is less than three miles east of the city centre, along
Ashton Old Road - a major route into the city centre from the nearby M60

Living in Openshaw
There are small supermarkets and local shops on Aston Old Road. And it's
just half a mile to Gorton market. Some homes are closer to more shops on
Ashton New Road, Clayton.
The nearby 'East Manchester town centre', between Alan Turing Way and
Ashton New Road, includes an Asda superstore and smaller local shops and
facilities.
There's a great range of excellent facilities a mile away around the City
of Manchester stadium and the Sportcity complex - including athletics,
squash and tennis, and the national velodrome cycling centre.
There are regular buses along Ashton Old Road to Manchester and Ashton.
Homes south of Ashton Old Road are close to Gorton station, and its frequent
trains between the city centre and Glossop in the peak district. The north
of the area will benefit from a new Metrolink line that will bring frequent,
speedy trams from Ashton New Road to Sportcity and the city centre.
