Area guide: Gorton South
Gorton South is three miles south-east of the city centre,
between Stockport Road and Hyde Road - both major routes into the city
centre.
Living in Gorton South
There are a few local shops, a post office, and a council neighbourhood
centre on Mount Road. Homes west of Mount Road are about three-quarters of a
mile from a large Asda Supermarket and shops at Longsight centre on
Stockport Road.
The northern part of the area is about half a mile from the food hall and
outdoor market on Garratt Way just off Hyde Road; and just round the corner
from the multiplex cinema, bowling centre, and greyhound track at Belle Vue.
Debdale park and outdoor centre is less than a mile from the middle of
Gorton. It hosts a range of activities - tennis, pitch and putt, bowling,
five-a-side football, netball, boating, fishing, orienteering and more.
There are regular buses along Mount Road to the major routes into the
city centre and to Stockport. There are two local train stations - Belle Vue
and Ryder Brow - with hourly trains to Manchester.
