Area guide: Clayton
Clayton is less than three miles east of the city centre. It
lies on Ashton New Road; from Bank Street to the border with Tameside.
Most homes are between Ashton New Road and the open land at Clayton
Vale. Ashton New Road is a major route into the city centre from the
nearby M60 motorway around Manchester, so there's good access to other
parts of the city and beyond.
Living in Clayton
'East Manchester town centre' just half a mile away between Alan
Turing Way and Ashton New Road includes an Asda superstore and smaller
local shops and facilities.
Clayton is within reach of a great range of excellent facilities
around the City of Manchester stadium and the Sportcity complex -
including athletics, squash and tennis, and the national velodrome
cycling centre just off Bank Street. Clayton Vale has a network of paths
for walking, cycling and horse riding. There are picnic areas, fishing
ponds and a visitor centre.
There are regular buses along Ashton New Road - the vibrant city
centre, with its shops, entertainment and leisure facilities is just a
few minutes journey. A new Metrolink line will bring frequent, speedy
trams close to the area with stops at Holt Town (Ashton New Road),
Sportcity, and the velodrome. The line will bring better facilities, and
jobs, within easier reach
