Emergency rehousing applicants

You are automatically an ‘emergency’ rehousing applicant if Manchester City Council has agreed that you are homeless and you are living in temporary accommodation.

You can choose to be in the emergency category if you are about to be homeless, or your situation is so serious that you simply cannot stay in your current home much longer.

If nothing has come up in the specific areas you want within four weeks, you will be considered for a home anywhere in the city. So you will be automatically bid for homes that match your household and are offered by certain landlords – Manchester City Council (including Northwards Housing), Parkway Green Housing Trust, Eastlands Homes and Grove Village. You can still bid yourself for homes offered by other landlords.

If you do not accept an offer

If you do not accept an offer of a home, you stay in Group 2 but cannot stay in the 'emergency' category – see landlords’ rehousing rules. And your ‘queue date’ is made twelve months later - this means you would have less chance of getting a Priority home because other people who apply are likely to have an earlier queue date.
